About the Contest

The Golden Hammer Pallet Building Contest celebrates creativity, craftsmanship, sustainability, and community by challenging participants to transform reclaimed wooden pallets into original works of art, furniture, décor, outdoor projects, and functional creations. Whether you’re a professional builder, weekend DIYer, or first-time creator, this contest is designed to inspire builders of all skill levels while bringing families and the community together.


Important Dates

  • Registration Opens: July 25, 2026
  • September 19, 2026 – Registration Deadline
  • Contest Day: Saturday, October 3, 2026



Contest Divisions

  • Professional Division
    Construction professionals, cabinetmakers, woodworkers, or anyone who has been paid for building services within the past three years.
  • Community Builder Division
    DIY enthusiasts, hobby builders, families, schools, clubs, and first-time builders.
  • Youth Division
    Participants 17 years of age and younger.


Eligibility

The contest is open to individuals and teams.


The following are not eligible to compete:

  • Employees of The Studio Building & Design Center
  • Immediate family members of Studio employees
  • Contest judges
  • Immediate family members of contest judges


Project Requirements

Projects must:

  • Contain at least 60% reclaimed pallet wood
  • Fit within a maximum 8’ × 6’ footprint
  • Be portable and transportable by a pickup or utility trailer
  • Be structurally sound
  • Be safe for public display

  • Decorative materials


Prohibited Materials

  • Hazardous materials
  • Explosives
  • Open flames
  • Unsafe electrical wiring
  • Offensive or inappropriate content


Judging Criteria

Projects will be judged on:

  • Creativity & Originality
  • Craftsmanship & Quality
  • Structural Integrity
  • Effective Use of Reclaimed Pallet Materials
  • Overall Presentation

Registration Deadline

Completed registrations must be received by Friday, August 28, 2026.

  • Registration is accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • Entries received after the deadline may be accepted only if display space is available.
  • Registration may close early if all display spaces are filled.
  • Display spaces will be assigned after registration closes.
  • Participants will receive setup instructions prior to the event.


Contest Policies

Please include brief sections for:

  • Selling Your Project - Projects may be offered for sale. All negotiations and transactions are solely between the builder and purchaser. The Studio assumes no responsibility for private sales.
  • Weather Policy - Projects may be offered for sale. All negotiations and transactions are solely between the builder and purchaser. The Studio assumes no responsibility for private sales.
  • Project Setup & Removal - Contestants are responsible for transportation, setup, and removal. Projects may not be removed before the awards ceremony without approval.
  • Rule Enforcement - The Studio reserves the right to reassign divisions, remove unsafe projects, disqualify rule violations, and interpret contest rules. All judging decisions are final.


Liability

All participants must sign the official liability waiver. Participants assume responsibility for construction, transportation, setup, removal, and safety of their project.
